... My name is Ernesto Otero. I am 20 years old. My hometown is Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I began racing go-karts at 7 years of age. I was 11 when I started racing Motocross. I raced Motocross until I was 15 when I had a very bad accident. The following week my brother, who is 2 years younger than me, also suffered a really bad accident. Therefore, we decided to resume racing go-karts. In 2005, I was 2nd place in the Brazilian Formula Ford Championship, winning the last 3 races. In 2006, I raced the ultra-competitive Brazilian Formula Renault 2.0 Liter Championship. I won 1 race, had three 2nd places and 5 podium finishes. In 2007, I began the season in the South American F3 with a 3 car team in its first year. I was third in the Championship when I received a proposal from Double R Team in England to do the second half of the season in British F3. It was an offer I couldn’t refuse. I finished 2nd at Silverstone in my debut race. My second best finish was 4th in Croft. I decided to contest the 2008 Star Mazda Championship Series because it is a great series, very competitive and in my opinion, the open wheel unification will bring rapid growth and opportunities in the American open wheel scenario.

... I was born in Bogotá on June 9th 1986, I have an older sister, Nadia, and an older brother, Federico. Since I was a kid, I played soccer at a very competitive level and I always watched those old good F1 races of Senna, Prost, Mansell with my father but it was not until 2004 that I decided to try racing I started in 2004 in a local indoor go kart track with immediately good results. I got 2nd place at the championship of that track and I knew I was good at it so in 2005, I convinced my father of buying me a go-kart and started racing professional go-karts.
I was the champion of the 2nd semester of the Easykart 125cc Rookie class in 2005. In 2006, I only got a fifth at the championship at the Easylart 125cc expert class because of many technical problems. I also did my debut in formula car racing doing the 3Day and 2Day Skip Barber Schools and then I had permission to race directly at the Skip Barber National Championship at RA where I did the fastest lap race in Race 2 and finished 7th after starting 14th. I also ran the regional series later that year in MidOhio getting two 6th places. In December, I tried to race the 6 hours of Bogota but we could not start because of technical issues of the car. In 2007, I was 2nd at the Colombian Rotax Max Challenge and I almost went to Rotax World Finals in Dubai. I also got the 2nd place at the Fedekart Karting Cup. I also raced the 6 hours of Bogota in a Renault Twingo Turbo, we were doing a really good job until my partner crashed in an unfortunately incident.
I’m also coursing my 4th year of mechanical engineering at Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia.
